چکیده

In the eld of pattern matching, there is a clear trade-o between e ectiveness, accuracy and robustness on one hand and e ciency and simplicity on the other hand. For example, matching patterns more e ectively by using a more general class of transformations usually results in a considerable increase of computational complexity. In this paper, we introduce a general pattern matching approach which will be applied to a new measure called the absolute di erence. This patternsimilarity measure is a ne invariant, which stands out favourably in practical use. The problem of nding a transformation mapping to the minimal absolute di erence, like many pattern matching problems, has a high computational complexity. Therefore, we base our algorithm on a hierarchical subdivision of transformation space. The method applies to any a ne group of transformations, allowing optimisations for rigid motion. Our implementation of the method performs well in terms of reliability and e ciency.

Invariant Framework for Diierential Aane Signatures

A framework for generating diierential aane invariant signatures based on the gray level images of planar shapes is introduced. Non trivial invariant signatures and their corresponding arclengths are computed for planar shapes. These signatures are useful for pattern recognition and classiication under partial occlusion. We deal only with implementable signatures, which practically means using ...

A ne Invariant Gradient Flows

An aane invariant metric allowing one to compute aane invariant gradient descent ows is rst presented in this work. This means that given an aane invariant energy, we compute based on this metric the ow that minimizes this energy as fast as possible and in an aane invariant way. Two examples are then presented. The rst one shows that the aane ow minimizing the area enclosed by a planar curve is...

Stereo Matching of Color Images using Differential Invariants

In this paper, we present a new method for matching points in stereoscopic, uncalibrated color images. Our approach works on point primitives and consists rst in using a point characterization based on diierential invariants, deened until now for gray value images. Then we deene additional invariants of rst order, exploiting color information. The characterization obtained is invariant to ortho...

Mobile robot localization and navigation require robust and eecient methods for utilizing perceptual information. In this paper we propose a design for simple visual landmarks that can be unobtrusively added to an environment for navigation without a global geometric map of the workspace. We describe self-similar intensity patterns together with an eecient and reliable algorithm for their detec...

An Eecient, Geometric Approach to Rigid Body Motion Interpolation

This paper develops a method for generating tra-jectories for a rigid body with speciied boundary conditions at the end points and intermediate locations. It is well known that SE(3), the set of all rigid body positions and orientations, is a non Euclidean space. In general, the problem of determining trajectories that are optimal with respect to some meaningful metric does not have an analytic...
